Silly Venture 2k23WE

TRiAD was present at the Silly Venture 2023 Winter Edition demo party, joining a special celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Atari Jaguar console together with our friends from the Atari scene. Silly Venture is a bi-yearly event, this time taking place in the Gedanus community center in the very heart of the beautiful city of Gdansk, Poland on 7-10 December 2023.

TRiAD’s contributions included Offshoot, a 16-kbytes intro for the Atari XL/XE that scored close behind the podium on the 4th place, just after a masterpiece by another known C64 scener, DKT/Samar. DJ Gruby already threatens that this has not been the last word of TRiAD conveyed via Atari hardware.

Our little silly but genuinely nice one-file C64 demo titled Forever Friends managed to secure the top spot in the wild compo.

The weekend of June 30 / July 1 saw the first installment of the young successor to the south Swedish Gubbdata party – Pågadata, and Triad was present with a whole bunch of other groups. We presented several new releases at the party, the Cocktail II and Engelbart one-file demos and two graphic entries by Twoflower; Laservapen and Take a Bow. The later placed 2nd in the C64 graphics competition while the demos achieved 5th and 2nd place in the C64 demo competition. There was also a PETSCII by Skyhawk called Zoltar that placed fifth in the graphics competition and El Topo released a tune called Bacon Thief that placed 7th in the music compo.

Way overdue update

We’ve been sloppy with updates for quite a while. Of course, you who frequently keep up to date with the happenings on the scene know that we have been working as usual.

It would be a futile effort to try to recap all that has happened since the last update, so we will just concentrate on what has happened during the last week…

A few days ago, Gubbdata 2021 was held in Lund. Still in pandemic mode, most of the party was held online in a digital fashion, but Skyhawk represented TRIAD live on site.

Jucke and Skyhawk/TRIAD looking fancy live at the Gubbdata 2021 party!

We had some treats to release as well. First the educational PETSCII show Droids of Star Wars, teaching you about the different types of droids in the Star Wars universe, with graphics by Wbochar + El-Topo, music by TDM + Dalezy and code by Icon + Wbochar.

The BBS intro Mad Scientist for Antidote BBS was another one published by us, this time with PETSCII by Skyhawk, code by Icon, music by ne7 and sample cutting by Taper.

Three pieces of graphics were also put out; Gerontoeroticon from Frost, Tjardalen from Twoflower and Coitus Interruptus by Skyhawk.

Welcome 2020!

We ended the past year by releasing yet a bunch of new games on the very last day. Jetdroid and Magnetoball are two more games from OneButtonSmashers employing a simplified control scheme. The first was handled by Lynx while the latter was done by Maxlide, with auxiliary duties handled by Taper, El Topo and Skyhawk.

Ca$h managed to obtain UFO Cownapper preview by employing some classic sweet-talking, which was then quickly trained and linked by Lynx.

In December Nith released Mesmerizer for the Intro Creation Competition, together with TDM and Twoflower. As 2020 begun we entered yet another intro, entitled Triggered. This fab production was built by Powerslave, TDM and Twoflower. We are overwhelmed with the great reception that we’ve had with these two entries and now we’re eagerly awaiting the final results.

Triggered by TRIADMesmerizer by TRIAD

TDM also put out a fixed version of his tune Vandal Heart, since the one included in Vandalism News sadly bugged after playing about 75% of the tune.

Most recently wbochar went all in and created five contributions for the tiny PETSCII compo 2020. Also Skyhawk contributed with one piece. Check them out under our releases.

Unfortunate for us, in January ilesj decided to leave the mothership in favor for his fellow countrymen in Artline Designs. During his time in TRIAD, he has been responsible for art direction and graphics for our award-winning demos Continuum and Neon, as well as several other appreciated productions. We wish ilesj all the luck with his new projects, and will miss him with all our hearts.

Christmas Eve Bonanza

We’ve been hard at work during christmas and put out a streak of releases for your enjoyment!

First out was the very promising preview of Chiller 2, distributed to subscribers via Freeze64 magazine. Complete with a new crackinto by Maxlide. Since it was released on christmas eve we even made a departure from tradition regarding the design on the intro, utilizing a PETSCII that Shine created for us a while back.

The game itself is of course an inofficial sequel to the old Mastertronic hit Chiller, which many of us played from budget tape back when we were kids.

Another game from Freeze64, naturally named Freeze64, was also released. The christmas theme is strong in this one, with you taking control of Santa and his reindeer and attempt to deliver gifts despite harsh conditions

braindeath-animYet another title from Santas sack of goodies made it out on christmas eve, as we give you Brain Death – a GTW puzzler that was almost lost forever!

Supplied by Nith, while linked, bugfixed and trained by Sailor. NTSC fix conducted by Maxlide while Taper, El Topo and TDM did a whole lot of puzzle playing to ensure stability. Also worth to mention is that this title is fixed to work on C128, where the original totally bombed.

Hopefully you also noticed the new christmas intro, Christmas Reforged, from
us that we used for this crack! Based on the
old classic TRIAD christmas crackintro, but

updated for future generations by Icon and Twoflower, with a new christmas medly tune from TDM!

The game itself is a tricky puzzler with no less than 120 levels to solve, so that will hopefully keep you well occupied while enjoying your christmas holiday.

And, not to forget, we also managed to update this site again, after more than a year of slacking!

Annual update

Yes, we should be ashamed of ourselves – it has been more or less a year since we last updated this site! But, better late than never, so here it goes…

During 2019 we landed several new recruits to our ranks; Maxlide, Raphis, wbochar and El Topo all came onboard the mummyship and reinforced us greatly.

Release-wise, 2019 has been another good year for us with more than 50 productions of different flavours released! They are too many to mention them all, but here are a few goodie-tips from 2019 you shouldn’t miss:

Artsie people will love this “hemnet”-killer, Stolen Properties – concieved by iopop, Twoflower, TDM and bepp!

Again for the artsy people we recommend DUBCRT +3D – a commercial music album and game in one! No need to spend money on LSD when you have this! Cracked by Maxlide, supplied by Cash and docs by bepp!

Another crack by Maxlide, Run Demon Run +1D is an excellent game, coupled with a smashing crackintro by Powerslave, Twoflower and TDM!

For the PETSCII connoisseur we point to Fat Albert, a smaller demo made by Powerslave, Skyhawk and TDM!

This list of tips would not be complete without one of the great games Antonio Savona made during the year. Chopper Command +3D blows the original Atari 2600 game out of the sky and we trained it and provided docs for your entertainment. Handled by Maxlide, TDM and Cash!

Interested in history? Then you should check out the three educational MR T games, like MR T’s Money Box complete with full extensive documentation. Handled by Sailor, Taper and Cash!

There has been no lack of games this year, so Trogue64 +5H is another one you can’t miss! Coded by the new TRIAD member wbochar (but before he became a member), while TDM supplied and Sailor did the cracking!

If you like healthy food, we must recommend Vegetables Deluxe V1.0 +1D, cracked and trained by Lynx in a flash!

Powerslave and TDM provided us with a smashing 4K intro for the CSDB intro compo, entitled No More Grey Dots! A must see of course!

A bigger intro from Nith was also offered recently, entitled Mesmerizer, also containing music by TDM and a font by Twoflower.

More legal productions with Arne Alligator, a PETSCII feast for your kids perhaps? Featuring Arne by Skyhawk, the smashing theme song covered by TDM and code by Powerslave!

Then we are back to games… an unknown Infocom title was made to run on the breadbin, so if you are into text adventures, you must try out Hypochondriac! Complete with walkthrough this one was taken care of by Twoflower and Maxlide, with invaluable help from Fredrikr!

Of course, there has been more! Check out Releases for everything we have done during 2019!

HOT WINTER – HOT RELEASES

So, what have TRIAD been up to after the successful summer? Quite a lot of course, so let us recap a bit… But before the recap, let us showcase our very latest release, put out on the first day of 2019…

att19-img

Yup, it is time for issue #19 of Attitude, packed to the brim with hot news, cool articles, great graphics and wonderful tunes. Published together with Genesis Project, and with the help of several friends on the scene.

Now, lets reverse the tape a bit, and see what we did a few months back…

In October, Dalezy won the music compo at Deadline 2018 with a smashing tune Szalonna Csillag. During the same month, two firsties were put out in the wild; Laura64 Preview V2 handled by Sailor and translated by DJ Gruby, and Cow & Chicken Preview slammed by Lynx.

megauk_img

Moving on to November, the small demo Mega Ukulele was released, based on a compo picture at X2018 from Nith, with additional graphics by Skyhawk, code by Powerslave and music by TDM.

screwit-img

While at X2018, we won the 4K compo there with a totally amazing contribution, Screw It! Done by Icon, ilesj and TDM and taking the event by storm!

arcavi-img

More cracks made it out during December; Space Moguls done in coop with our friends in Genesis Projects, and then the definite version of Aviator Arcade II, also with G*P.

opat-img
On Christmas Eve, the traditional gift from TRIAD came in the form of O-Pat-Ko-No complete with docs. On the next day, we followed up with a jewel version of Death in the Caribbean, 101% and docs, solution and map provided.

deathin-img

On the last day of 2018, Ninja Invasion Simulator Preview  was also let out.

3intros

Also during December, we entered no less than three intros in the Intro Creation Competition 2018; Revolution by Nith+TDM, Raster Compleeto by Twoflower+Powerslave+TDM and Rasterblues by Twoflower+Icon+Flex.

Hot Summer – hot releases!

It has been one hot summer this year, which also applies to the activity of TRIAD! Since the last update here, we’ve been tinkering with quite some interesting stuff.

A whole bunch of us were present at Gubbdata 2018 in the end of June, more specifically Cash, Powerslave, Bepp, Sailor, Mr.Z, King Fisher, iopop, Skyhawk and Taper. While there we incidently won the demo competition with our tribute to Mr.Z, entitled Soft Machine. The demo was coded by Icon, iopop, Powerslave and Houbba, with graphics from Twoflower and music by Dalezy!

In addition to the demo, some extra freebies to go with it was released, namely Technolo-G  and Goodlife. Skyhawk also released a smaller petscii animation in cooperarion with Lola, Walk of Shame.

Dancing Keith

Dancing Keith

A whole streak of smaller first-releases would also make it out during and just after the party. Starting off with G7000 Racer!, which also boasted the brand new crackintro entitled Dancing Keith, concieved by Skyhawk, Powerslave and Ne7. The rush continued with Orbs, Wave Hero, Trump Tower, Mind the Mines and the 101% version of Memory-Safe. Sailor and Lynx helped out taking care of business on those titles.

A few weeks later, old member Quorthon visited Taper and the TRIAD HQ basement for some catching up. Sadly the meetup was not caught on camera this time around.

Hammering at Gubbdata 2018 took its toll, so we had no releases for this years edition of Datastorm. However, TDM and Cash were present at the party, while King Fisher hosted a remote talk about the conception of our legendary demo Red Storm. The talk can be scene in this video, forward to about 02:09. Also TDM and former member Alfatech is participating in the talk.

A few days after Datastorm, a small meeting was held at Tapers place, with iopop, Skyhawk, Powerslave and guest Jucke/Judas present in the data-dungeon. Work on some future projects was discussed, some development was done and one 1983 C64 resurrected from the dead.

At last, some VERY cool news; TDM has decided to return to activity again, so his membership has been restored to active status! Welcome back to the mummyship!

MEGA UPDATE

Since we’ve been lazy with updates on this page again, here we go with a mega-update, mainly focusing on what happened during the last 7 months.

TRIAD ended 2017 with a bunch of cracks being released.  The sales-version of Slipstream was handled together with our friends in G*P in late November.

3A month later and we did what few thought was possible to pull off (especially in such a short time-frame) and presented a disk-version of the cartridge game LuftRauserZ with two trainers. Even cooler is the fact that the game doesn’t suffer from being run from disk, so no wonder this became a publicly acclaimed release. Sailor did the cracking while Lynx supplied the original.

mega-animThe traditional christmas release was next in line and on the 24:th of December we released Megatanoi Preview V2 +D, a game with a special story where Sailor had dug up new unseen material from unknown development disks.

Another win in December was the recruitment of old Tronix-coder Powerslave, who joined up with the mummyship!

6
In the very beginning of 2018 TRIAD also presented the definite version of the totally asskicking game Sam’s Journey. With no less than 9 trainers and complete with documentation, this version blows all other cracks out of the water. A whole range of members helped out with this game including Taper, MtnBuffalo, Lynx and Powerslave, but the hard work was once again done by Sailor.

Sadly, we also lost one of our graphicians in early 2018 when Vent decided to join up with his old buddies in Extend instead. We wish him a good stay in his new group, while being glad for all the neat contributions he has done for TRIAD during the years.

In March, a delegation from TRIAD attended Fjälldata in the very north of Sweden. Icon, iopop and Twoflower partied in the snow, and Twoflower came in on second place in the graphics compo with his Kim. A remote music entry, 15 years of friendship, from Dalezy, who had teamed up with Qdor for the occasion, was also released and ended up on third place in the music compo.

heman
Also in March, a small one-file demo, What’s going on?, competed in the He-Man Jr. competition at CSDB. Coded by Icon with graphics from Ilesj and music by Fegolhuzz/Panda Design it was one of the best contributions attending the compo. Before the month was over, petscii artist and trader Skyhawk left Laxity and joined up with us, and a small v2 preview called Bewitched  was also released.

att18Then in April, Attitude #18 was released, this time in coop with our friends in Genesis Project. With an intro coded by Powerslave and yet some mag-engine improvements by DJ.Gruby, issue #18 is filled to the brim with essential reads from a whole range of editors, including Taper, DJ.Gruby and MtnBuffalo, Hedning, Dr.Strange and Pad. The issue also contain a bunch of great soundtracks by Dalezy, Con, ne7, Fegolhuzz, 6R6, Jammer, MCH, TDM and Zardax.

refrefIn the end of April, a three-screen petscii entitled Reflections was released, with art by Skyhawk, code by Powerslave and music by Dalezy.

6May was a slow month without any releases from us, but in June we released the 101% and +6 trained version of the cool claustrophobic Alien-esque game Organism from Psytronik, thus claiming the firstrelease. With a trainer working against the alien-queen, and a bug in the original also affecting the queen fixed, this is the version of the game you want to play! The original was supplied by Romppainen and Sailor conquered the xenomorphed code.

Over and out, see you in the second half of 2018!

Surprise visits to other platforms

Zodiac Vitro for the Vic20

Zodiac Vitro for the Vic20

Although rare, TRIAD have made appearances on other platforms now and then during the years. Long gone is the steady Amiga section, but we’ve released a few goods on GBC, Amiga and PC-based C64 tools since then.

Abaddon and Bepp

Abaddon and Bepp

At the Zoo party in Finland, we contributed with the VIC20 demo Zodiac Vitro. Made for a stock machine without memory expansion, it was coded by Tao with music from Dalezy. Some serious shoe-horning was done here to make it all fit into the miniscule 5KB 2114 SRAM that the good old VIC offers!

Talking about Zoo, members present at the party were Vent, Ilesj, Romppainen, bepp, Tao and Cash. Also former member Abaddon showed up.

Road to TRSAC

Road to TRSAC

Also in October, at TRSAC 2017, we teamed up with Genesis Project and Digital Demolition Krew and released a neat Nintendo 8-bit production entitled Road to TRSAC, where Dalezy was responsible for the music.

It ended up on third place in the oldschool demo compo!
