• Free software compress files to rar and zip format

  7-Zip not only can compress the file into 7z format, but also compress the file into a common ZIP format, with ZIP format the compression speed faster, and the compatibility is better. In RAR format, 7-Zip can also gives the compressed file a password to protect important files, no one can open this file without password. 7-Zip can compress multiple files or the entire folder into a file, sometime this is convenient for manage your files.

• Locked up my Computer

  Started to work, then just locked up. My computer went black and I couldn't get it back on.

  Cons

  BEWARE! This locked up my computer and I had to do a complete system install. Some of my programs are no longer functioning and I can't access the files I tried to zip. Don't download this! It started to work, then locked up.

  This program could be deadly to your computer. Highly recommend to try something else!!!!

  Tried to un-rar two files so far, nothing works. Both files end up with errors after about 26% decompression No icon on the start menu, just a blank square - Win10

  Doesn't work at all. I tried several different websites. All of them download the software but the program doesn't work. I have several .gz files I need to be able to read on my Dell Inspiron Windows 7 computer. 7 zip just flat doesn't work at all.

  Very easy to use: extract files, move, etc.

  Cons

  Took me a few minutes to locate it in the program files (x86), figure out which .exe needed to be used, and learn that I must "extract" each item before it would open up or move.

  Unable to Uninstall Only Option Available in Windows Webstore No Response to Most Support Questions (based on internet questions) Duplicates Itself in Original Directory (along with source document) By Duplicating Itself in OS it Disintegrates the Reason for Zipping Files/Folders in the First Place

  Summary

  I found this product far from "better than other ZIP utilities" as touted elsewhere (see list of Cons). Plus, when attempting to uninstall it kept its own program availability when right-clicking a file or folder, as though it still existed after being removed, and indeed, it did.
