Depression Chat Rooms

DEPRESSION CHAT GUIDE AND OVERVIEW

To maintain the smooth and friendly environment of these depression chat rooms, we insist that all members read the following chat room guide, and adhere to it at all times.

Please acquaint yourself with the following:

1. An "@" sign next to a specific nickname denotes a person as a chat room moderator (an Op). Please note the Op team are volunteering their time and are to be treated with respect. Decisions by all room moderators are not to be argued with, or challenged in any way ▒ their only objectives are to provide support, and to look after the overall well-being of the depression chat rooms. Should you have a question or problem whilst in the chat rooms, please double click on an Op's nickname to talk to him/her in private.

2. As a member of these depression chat rooms it is expected that you use a single nickname. This helps others to recognise you, which in turn helps to create trust. Furthermore, if you wish to remain logged into the chat rooms whilst away from your computer, please ensure you do so by altering your nickname in an appropriate manner. For example, by putting an "away" or "bbl
*" notice next to your name. This helps others to know who is, and isn't available at a specific time.

3. We ask you to receive permission from any chatter that you do not know before talking to them in private. A simple, "May I PM
** you?" is all that is required. This shows respect to others.

4. Sexual explicit conversations or the use of strong profanities are not tolerated. Such content can often cause triggering
***, or an environment that may be disturbing to others.

5. The glorification of suicidal thoughts, self injury text, or links, will not be tolerated. This can result in your being removed from the chat rooms.

6. These depression chat rooms were formed to help support those with depression and other related health issues. The chat rooms are not to be considered or used as dating rooms. Terms such as "a/s/l" are discouraged and are frowned upon.

7. The minimum age to enter these chat rooms is sixteen. By entering the chat rooms you are validating and identifying yourself as being sixteen years of age or above.

8. The depression chat rooms are not to be linked to any external resource without prior consent from us.

* bbl = be back later

** PM = Private Message

*** Triggering = To inadvertently remind others, and perhaps cause them to re-live bad memories and experiences
