Your Sexual Health Matters! Each of Center on Halsted’s HIV/STD and Sexual Health services align with the State of Illinois Get To Zero plan which sets a goal of no new HIV transmissions by the year 2030 while ensuring people living with HIV can access resources to live full, meaningful lives. Center on Halsted offers free HIV/HCV testing; linkage to medical care and other services for people living with HIV; PrEP navigation; education and referrals on the State of Illinois AIDS/HIV & STD Hotline; and assistance in navigating financial resources, housing, medical care/health home, and other essential services through the Chicagoland HIV Resource HUB. All services are available in English and Spanish.

The HUB is the only door a person needs to receive assistance and the professional staff provides comprehensive information and direct connections to HIV services for people living with and vulnerable to HIV. Individual assessments will identify specific needs and connection to appropriate resources such as HIV/STD testing, PrEP support, primary care, housing assistance, medical transportation, emergency financial assistance, behavioral health and case management services and other essential services. HUB services are for people living in Chicago and the surrounding 9 counties – Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will. All calls are confidential.

Everyone should be tested for HIV at least once in their lifetime. HIV is primarily passed from one person to another by engaging in unprotected, penetrative sex (ex. anal or vaginal), and sharing injection drug equipment.Center on Halsted offers free, confidential, rapid HIV testing, Monday through Saturday. Individuals will receive testing, counseling and customized referrals from highly-trained Health Educators who are equipped to help you understand your HIV risk, thoroughly explain your test results, and assess your need for further sexual health-related services. Each testing session takes approximately 45 minutes and you will receive your rapid results during this time.

(Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) is a once daily, prescription medication that if taken properly, can reduce your risk of getting HIV. In order to access PrEP, individuals must be screened for HIV and STDs as well as have kidney and liver functions monitored. PrEP is only intended for use by people who are not living with HIV.
Center on Halsted currently offers free PrEP Navigation services that can help you more easily access this game-changing medication. The PrEP navigator can help you figure out the best location for you to see a provider who will complete the necessary blood work and give you a prescription for the medication. In addition, the PrEP Navigator is here to help remove any barriers to access such as financial cost, lack of insurance, and other challenges to engaging in the medical system. The Hotline answers your sexual health questions with friendly, professional and trained staff. The Hotline staff can also find you no-cost and/or low-cost HIV and STD testing services. A wide variety of other referrals are also available, including referrals for Linkage to Care for HIV-positive individuals and access to PrEP for HIV-negative individuals. All calls are confidential.

An important aspect of HIV-prevention is ensuring that people who are living with HIV are able to engage with the healthcare system to access life-saving medication and supportive services. We understand that accessing care means more than just attending doctor’s appointments and taking medication. Many people who take their HIV medication are able to achieve an undetectable viral load, this is great news for you and your partners because once a person is undetectable they are no longer able to pass HIV to their partners through sexual contact. Our holistic approach aims to ensure that people living with HIV are able to thrive and enjoy a long and healthy life.
Some of the areas that our Care Coordinator can assist you with include accessing food, transportation, substance abuse and other behavioral health services, housing application assistance, clothing, and more.
