Haven't had direct contact with this device yet but here is info from the Honeywell FAQ's

A single, low cost module (4232CBM Connected Building Module) and Control4

driver supports both residential and commercial Honeywell VISTA panels (VISTA-15P, 20P, 21iP, 128BPT, 128BPTSIA)*. The installation and Control4 configuration process is identical, for any type of VISTA panel used. The 4232CBM is also the only solution that allows the Control4 driver to import zone alpha descriptors from the panel, eliminating multiple entry of the same data and simplifying installation.

It appears for a Vista20P or FA168 panel you need to have a panel firmware version of 9.1 or higher. What versions of Director is required is not mentioned. Will try to find out more.

Anyone else have any other details??

I will place a call to my Honeywell Rep when I hit the office on Monday. See what he knows. Honeywell has partnered with Control4 and come out with a new Vista series panel that is C4 compatible and probably already has the 4232CBM module on board. This module is also available as a separate add on board, as I am reading it, to retro fit other Honeywell panels. You may need to upgrade the panel chip firmware. In my case I have the FA168 (Vista20P) but my chip firmware is at 7.0. I will have to replace the chip with a newer 9.1 chip. My biggest concern will be on the Control4 side if the driver will be for latest Director version only, or whether it will be backwards compatible to 1.7v, which I still use.

Can't wait to hear what they tell you. There seems to be a lot of us limping along on the no longer supported ICM interface which really provides a poor level of integration with Control4 in my opinion. Also, I'm still running 1.74 as well so it would be interesting to know if there is a chance it is supported on that version.

A few things I'm hoping the new interface does much better then the old ICM interface:

- Reports the open/close of zone during Entry/Exit delay

- Update/Reports the restoration of a zone much quicker (currently this can be as long as 30 seconds)

- Real time zone state update (after power outage/reboot of Control4). Currently, I have to open/close each zone after resetting my control4 controller for it properly know the "state" of each zone.

So far, Honeywell only can confirm that it will work with 2.0, 2.1. But an inside contact at Control4 says that being a "certified" driver for a particular version of Director doesn't mean it won't work with other versions as well. He was pretty sure that it would work with 1.7.4, and is going to check further and advise.

SO ... I guess I will be the guinea pig and order a 4232cbm and give it a go. Will keep you posted.

@ the codeman what version of firmware on your panel??

It has to be at least firmware 9.1 or greater.

Correct, I have to swap out my chip to get to the higher firmware version to use the 4232cbm. But we have them in stock so I just have to set aside time to upload the panel, change the chip, and then download the panel info back again. Found a RJ-45 to DB9 adapter on Monoprice.com too so waiting for that to come in so I can use it to wire the 4232cbm to my HC300.

So you can swap just the chip and not the whole panel? I have the first alert panel with a wa20p chip. My alarm guy said I would have to replace the whole panel to get the new firmware.

  • 2 weeks later...

I got mine in, and need to update my firmware. From what I was reading though, it doesnt appear that you can just "pop" out the chip, you'll need a whole new board. Unfortunately, I'm going to be busy for the next week on project sites and wont have a chance to mess with it until after that.
