Do Microsoft call you at home?

Just had a call from what sounded like an Asian man telling me my computer housing MS Windows has been sending reports when I've had crashes etc. The crashes are true, but I'm unsure whether the info he gave me may just be a chance call, a scam.

Do MS call you or should I ignore?

    Ignore. It's a scam.

It's been going on for a while. Here's a link to a Guardian story (from 2010) about this sort of thing.

        TL; DR vesion:
"If you receive an unsolicited call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft Tech Support, hang up. We do not make these kinds of calls."

The thread title had me picturing Bill Gates on his bed twirling the phone cord around his finger and going:
              "What you doing?"
              "Me? Nothing. Just chillaxin'"
"That Gary in the 9th grade is so dreeeamy."

It's an attempt to install keyloggers on your PC, so they will note any 16 digit numbers being entered etc and fire across your credit card details ready to mess you up

Don't hang up though. Tell them you need help. String them along. Then after 5 mins of them trying to figure out why you can't see a "start" button, tell them you have Linux. They will transfer you to their linux rep. After 5 mins of playing with this person, tell them you can't even get past bios or something. They hung up on me after that.

Also, have you had any calls in the last couple of weeks previous saying they are a survey? If so, probably the same crew trying to get more info from you in advance. Ensure you make up lots of fake data and when they ask you to confirm your name, give them a different one.

Or just say they have reached the [town] police station. I haven't had a single call since I tried that one (I was enjoying myself)

I wish you had posted this earlier, Charles. Sadly, I have told them that I will be contacting Microsoft myself for verification. They didn't sound too professional after me saying that. Flapping and raised voice tones where coming down my phone.

I will definitely be making myself sound all bobby next time though

                  Thanks guys.

There are a few more in that thread by me, or maybe the happy thread.

I especially liked: "Are you single or married?" me:"Yes". (repeat 4 times)

The following are good links where someone strings along these clowns. The second video is particular good

I received a phone call from scammers in India and I decided to have some fun!

Second part of the conversation with a phone scammer who ended up asking me for a Facebook friend request!

I played FM static at a very loud volume from powerful speakers in an attempt to partially damage their hearing.

                              No calls since.
