Spinfox

UPDATE December 20, 2006: Updated maxversion for Firefox 2.0.0.x. Nothing else changed, yet.

UPDATE December 6, 2006: Thanks to the ever so awesome Euan Ritchie and his herd of domesticated Puppeteers, Spinfox is now an XPI installable Extension. Currently this is 0.7 because I have some additional stuff to enhance. Next features are replacing the throbber on tabs, maybe extra large sizes (we'll see how that works), possibly smoothing the images a little more, etc. Neither Euan nor myself are responsible if you put your eye out installing this.

Spinfox 0.7.1 XPI.

I never liked the plain throbber in Firefox. Browsers typically use some form of the logo for their throbber. So I took the firefox logo, separated the fox from the globe background, and animated the fox spinning around the globe. Here's how you can use it.

Depricated (and sometimes doesn't even work)

Open your profile directory, and then open the chrome directory inside.
On Windows 9x it's generally:

C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[random].default\chrome

On Windows 2000/XP it's usually something like this:

C:\Documents and Settings\[Windows User Name]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[random].default\chrome

In that directory, edit or create a file called userChrome.css and add the lines contained in add-to-userChrome.css. In that same directory, place these six GIFs:

static16.gif
static20.gif
static24.gif
throbber16.gif
throbber20.gif
throbber24.gif

All done. Start up Firefox. All six GIFs are needed because the correct set of images are used depending on if you use large, small, or text-only navigation buttons.
