The Body of Eva Peron

A Play by Angela Gant and William F. Bryan

After going missing for 15 years, the body of Eva Perón is delivered unannounced to her husband Juan’s house in Madrid. Juan Perón is the former dictator of Argentina living in exile in Spain with his current wife, Isabel, and her personal secretary, the occultist José López Rega. Dr. Ara, the anatomist responsible for embalming Eva’s body, is summoned and remains to tend to Juan’s health and to spend time with his beloved Eva. Rega and Isabel are in love, but Rega’s life is in danger as past indiscretions have caught up to him in Madrid. Eva animates selectively to drive the action and sets Rega, Isabel and Ara to perform their duties to get everyone back to Argentina so Juan can reassume the presidency from which he was removed 17 years earlier. When they finally get back to Argentina, Juan becomes increasingly unstable and erratic as he suffers a heart attack and bouts of dementia, to say nothing of his alarming move back to fascism. When Juan finally goes too far, Eva exhorts the others to play their part in killing him.
